Roy Ackerman CBE
His public and personal careers have made him an internationally recognised figure in the hospitality industry.
He has represented Britain over four continents as Chairman of the World Master of Culinary Arts and throughout Europe with the Café Creme Guide Annual Awards and Martell Guide to Europe
Roy Ackerman was awarded an OBE in 1990 for his contribution to tourism and training whilst Chairman of the Restaurant Association of Great Britain. Subsequently he served an additional 5 years as President of the Restaurant Association of Great Britain and 10 years as the Chairman of the Hotel and Catering Training Board. During his time as Chairman he led the privatisation procedure from public to private body. He remains involved as Chairman of the Honorary Members of the Academy of Culinary Arts and assists the Academy of Food and Wine Service with conferences and training initiatives.
In recent years he has helped or backed, amongst others, leading chefs, Giorgio Locatelli, Brian Turner, Antony Worrall Thompson, Theo Randall and Maitre d’ Elena Salvoni with whom he set up a restaurant under her name. In 2003, as a tribute to founding the Henley Festival of Music and the Arts, he was made Honorary President to celebrate its 21st year.
Roy was awarded a CBE in 2000 for services to Gastronomy.
